Pileh Lagoon & Long Beach – Thailand

This incredible lagoon is located a short trip away from Maya Bay. One can either take a day trip from Phuket Port or depart directly from Koh Phi Phi, which is a much better route since the distance is not as far from the mainland. The Pileh Lagoon can only be reached by boat, so it is best to go early in the day.

As you enter through the massive cliffs, an aquamarine sparkle will catch your eye as the glimmering sea looks up at you.

There is something about the combination of the traditional Thai wooden boats and the sea that makes an incredible photo. During our time at the Lagoon, we jumped off the boat, swam the entire circumference of the bay, and explored the side caves & cliffs. It was one of the highlights of our southern Thailand adventure.

Snorkeling is also ideal here as the water is crystal clear. As we made our way back to the main island of Koh Phi Phi, another location caught our interest: Long Beach. Located on the southeast side of Koh Phi Phi, it is separated from the east gate of town by an expanse of jungle. After about 30 minutes of venturing through the jungle and small boutique hostel-like huts, you will reach this sunset destination.

A gorgeous place to end the island-hopping experience. If you want to get away from all of the beach parties and tourists, this area has some of the best places to stay on Koh Phi Phi. As I mentioned above, there are boutique huts that are available to rent on the way there all along the south east coast. The vibe on this part of the island is much more rustic because you will be staying in the jungle, which is where we stayed. It was great being able to wake up in the morning and walk 100 feet right into the water. It was an absolutely phenomenal spot!

Since you are isolated from the rest of the island, there are many locals who bring their wooden boats here and will offer to taxi you back to the center of Koh Phi Phi for about 40 Baht (a little more than a dollar). The wooden boat taxis begin running around 6am and stop around 10 pm. If you are looking for adventure in this part of Thailand, search no more. Long Beach is your place. Enjoy!
