Daintree Rainforest Adventures – Australia

The Daintree Rainforest is located in northeast Australia, its entrance is about two hours north of the city of Cairns. Dating back 110 million years, this tropical rainforest is the oldest rainforest on the planet. The world’s most poisonous snakes, spiders, salt water crocodiles, and other predators inhabit this region.

Our adventure began in Cairns where we met up with a local Canadian film team. They agreed to drive with us through the heart of the Daintree Rainforest. We set off to explore some epic waterfalls and the famous Mossman Gorge. The team packed up the gear and hit the road.

Millaa Millaa Falls

The first stop on our journey was a beautiful waterfall used in the Herbal Essences commercials. Located about an hour and a half north of Cairns, this hidden gem is a must visit.

Daintree rainforestWhen we arrived at the bottom of the falls, it was decided that we had to find a way to the top. More importantly, I wanted to fly my drone and capture some epic footage. We searched for 2 hours until a route was found which required hiking through the rainforest – a mile up the road. After trekking through never-ending debris, we eventually made it.

Mossman Gorge

Next on the list was the famous Mossman Gorge. Located 80 kilometers north of Cairns, this region is home to the indigenous people called the Kuku Yalanji. More than 600 species of plants and 500 species of birds and animals populate the area. We trekked all day through the rainforest. Cliff jumping off of anything high enough, climbing the hanging vines Tarzan style, almost stepping on the world’s most poisonous snake, and testing out a local rope swing.

My favorite place was a small clearing where we could jump off a rope swing attached to a bent tree hovering over the lagoon.

daintree rainforestThis specific place was special because there was a crocodile warning and we had to constantly keep an eye out for crocs while filming & swimming – it gave us all a rush just thinking about it!
